Last night, during watermain works, NI Waterstaff discovered a large void, or underground hole under the Ravenhill road, Belfast.
We need to prioritise the safety of all road users during works to deal with the discovery of an underground hole on the Ravenhill Road. I am also calling for further investigation of the ground conditions in the immediate vicinity to ensure similar holes don’t exist.
This major hole in the road was discovered during improvement works being carried out by NI water. The road in currently closed, and whilst this will cause some disruption I believe that the safe and secure repair of the road is the priority.
The Ravenhill road is one of the main arterial routes into Belfast and I am calling on the statutory agencies to investigate if there any other similar holes in the location. Authorities need to ensure the structural support of the road surface is maintained and evaluate if any further works are required.
