Today the Dept of Social Development have launched a public consultation to develop a framework plan for the development of Shaftesbury Square, Belfast. I welcome any initiative that will guide planning and improvements to the area, which is key gateway to South Belfast. The ‘Golden Mile’ has undoubtedly stagnated over recent years, and this is an opportunity to forge a shared vision.
Now the people of Belfast and beyond have a chance to air their views, and bring ideas to the process. Design consultants have worked over the past six months to come up with the basis of a plan, and they have produced their consultation material. There will be a series of public information events held locally this month, organised by the South Belfast Partnership. I would encourage interested parties to attend.
The consultants work to date can be viewed here: http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/shaftesburysq-dev-framework-consultation.htm
