I welcome news that from Saturday 20th the process of switching between major telecoms providers will become easier. The telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has introduced a new ‘one touch’ process making it easier to change landline or broadband provider.
From tomorrow the responsibility for the broadband or landline switch will fall into the hands of the company to which the customer is moving. This is good news for consumers, as it takes the hassle out of switching and should encourage people to shop around for a better deal. I understand Ofcom are also looking at ways to make it easier for people to change mobile phone provider.
At present consumers wanting to change provider face a number of different switching processes, depending on who they are moving to and the type of service. The new process will apply to switches between providers who use the Openreach telecoms network – such as BT, EE, Sky and Talk Talk.
